Milani Rad Purple + Kleancolor Chunky Holo Purple

Happy Friday! The end of the week is here at that just means finals are even closer. But for now, I'm glad it's Friday. Today I'm going to show you my most recent layering manicure. Every time I get a new layering polish, I'm always tempted to try it over Milani Rad Purple - it's one of the best jellies I own, and it's purple to boot. Naturally, when I got Kleancolor Chunky Holo Purple in the mail after buying it from Colour Coated's blog sale, I had to slap it on over Rad Purple as soon as possible.

Look at that squishiness! I used three or four coats of Rad Purple Cult Nails Get it On, added a layer of Chunky Holo Purple, and finished it off with Cult Nails Wicked Fast. I'm hoping to find the time to review both of the Cult Nails treatments soon, though top and base coat posts always take me longer for some reason, but in the meantime I will tell you readily that I'm loving them both - so much, in fact, that I may yet say goodbye to my tried-and-true Barielle Clearly Noticeable Nail Thickener, Orly Nailtrition, and Sally Hansen Insta-Dri. Anyway, that discussion's for another post. Enjoy your Friday!

Milani Breezy

Milani Breezy is a nail polish that I've had in my untried bucket for quite a while. I got it in a giveaway (I can't remember whose, sorry) and sort of forgot about it - or, when I saw it in my untrieds, there was always something I wanted to try more. I'm determined to cut down my untried polishes significantly before I move to college, though, so I finally went for it yesterday evening.

First of all, you should know that Breezy is very sheer and dries slowly. I used five coats with top coat, letting each coat dry most of the way before adding the next (which took forever), then went to bed (because it was so darn late by the time I got done waiting for the coats to dry). I was very careful with where I put my hands when I laid down, but when I woke up in the morning, terrible sheet prints were on every nail. In some cases, the polish had even been pushed to one side of the nail. Because I didn't have time to redo a full manicure, I buffed the bumpiness down, then added another coat of Breezy and top coat. Since it's a sheer shimmer, though, you can still see where some of the sheet prints were. Oh, and guess what? Six coats, and still not completely opaque.

It's a pretty color on the nail, and I like it better than I thought I would in the bottle. However, this one is just too much trouble for me. Maybe if I had all day to paint my nails it would be worth it, but I don't, and it's not. There are plenty of blue shimmers out there that aren't such a pain, so I'd recommend spending your money on one of those. That said, if you are interested in owning a bottle of Breezy, I've listed it for swapping on MakeupAlley - my username's neverunpolished.

I'm leaving on Thursday for Greece thanks to Make-a-Wish, and I won't be back home until next Saturday or Sunday (probably Sunday). I'll be scheduling posts in the meantime, and I might even post a picture or two of Greece from my phone if I get a chance. However, I won't probably have posts scheduled for every day - I do still have to pack, after all!

Pink Wednesday: Pink & Gold

I almost forgot today was Pink Wednesday, but fortunately I managed to pull something together for a pink post. I painted my nails with three coats of Milani Pink Out Loud, a bright hot pink with pink and gold glass-flecked shimmer, and then I added one coat of Sephora by OPI Only Gold for Me on top.

Neither of these pictures shows Pink Out Loud accurately - I think maybe that's because the gold glitter overpowering enough to throw my camera off, but I'm not sure. Anyway, you can still get the general gist from these pictures.

Just to let you all know, I may not be posting every day for a while. I still love blogging and plan to continue Never Unpolished for the forseeable future, I just don't feel like doing a post every day right now. I do still plan to post at least every other day, if not more often...I guess the point of this is just to tell you not to expect a post every day.

That's all for today - and guess what? It's getting closer and closer to Friday! :)

Pink Wednesday: Milani Pink Out Loud

Soooo...I totally intended to wear a pink today. I really did. And then I got my samples from Fashionista Nails (review coming shortly!), and they were both awesome, and neither of them were pink. So instead of a current pink, I have a swatch of Milani Pink Out Loud to show you. I'm not sure why I didn't think to save my Pink Rose Diamond post for today...clearly I wasn't thinking ahead. Anyway, I only have one photo of this and I'll definitely be re-doing it in the sun at some point, but this is it for now. I used two coats without top coat.

Dry fingers...yuck. Anyway, the color in this picture is fairly accurate, though maybe a bit darker than real life, but the gold shimmer is much more prominent in real life. Pink Out Loud is a glass-flecked shimmer (my favorite kind) similar to several Zoyas. So since I love that finish and I love anything with gold shimmer, I was sold. Anyway, sorry for the crap review - tomorrow's will be much better, I promise!

Icing True Beauty

Happy Fat Tuesday/Mardi Gras/Shrove Tuesday! I'm giving up candy and meat for Lent, so I'm definitely looking forward to my one last sweet and meaty hurrah for the next forty days...though actually, at least in Catholicism, you don't have to fast on Sunday because it's a day of rest. Anyway, I thought it would be appropriate to show you something glittery today, though I didn't do an actual Mardi Gras-themed mani. Instead, I have Icing True Beauty for you, a rich army green color. I used two coats and Rush top coat, and in the second picture I've added a coat of Milani Gems, which I was fortunate enough to find at a CVS on a trip out of town a while back.

A bit of a letdown after GOSH Holographic, I know, but wouldn't anything be? I do really like this color, though, and I think it's a great base for Gems. Happy feasting if you plan on feasting, and if you don't, happy Tuesday! It's almost to the point where I can get away with wearing St. Patrick's Day manicures out in public without feeling like an idiot, so you may see some of those soon, though I make no promises.

Rad Purple + Hidden Treasure

After wearing Rad Purple on its own for a day or so, I added Hidden Treasure. And then my brain exploded. I've layered Hidden Treasure over a ton of polishes, and I've loved every single combination - but this? This is the best, by far. Let there be picspam!

I am in love. Despite the fact that it's barely halfway through January, I am sure that this will be one of my top manicures of 2011, if not THE top manicure. Not only do the flakies in Hidden Treasure and the jelly finish of Rad Purple complement each other perfectly, I've never seen the green in Hidden Treasure so prominent over any other polish. I really don't have anything else to say about this....let the pictures speak for themselves! I really hope this doesn't chip soon. Or ever. :)

Milani Rad Purple

I received Milani Rad Purple in a giveaway some time back, but I only just now tried it. It's one of Milani's neons, and while it's not really what I would consider a neon, it's so much better (in my opinion) than if it were. It's a plummy, red-based purple jelly that dries to a satin finish. I prefer it with a top coat because it really brings out the squishiness of the polish. I didn't get it to be truly opaque, but the only time I ever saw VNL was directly under the very bright light of the desk lamp I use for taking my nail photos. I used four coats, but since it dried quickly this wasn't a problem for me.

See how it shines in the second picture? I'm in love. Even better, it doesn't look as transparent in real life as it does in the pictures, but it does luck as juicy and squishy. If all jellies were like this, I'd probably have as many jellies as I do glitters or cremes. Of course, it also helps that it's such a rad purple. Yuck, yuck, yuck... Seriously, though. This is awesome.
